How Text Case Conversion Works
Each button applies a different capitalization rule to your text:
- UPPERCASE: every letter is converted to a capital letter.
- lowercase: every letter is converted to a small letter.
- Title Case: the first letter of every word is capitalized, the rest are lowercased.
- Sentence case: only the first letter after a period, question mark, or exclamation point (plus the very first letter of the text) is capitalized.
- aLtErNaTiNg CaSe: letters alternate between lowercase and uppercase, starting with a lowercase letter.
Worked Example
Take the input: hello WORLD. this is a TEST sentence.
- UPPERCASE: HELLO WORLD. THIS IS A TEST SENTENCE.
- lowercase: hello world. this is a test sentence.
- Title Case: Hello World. This Is A Test Sentence.
- Sentence case: Hello world. This is a test sentence.
Notice that Sentence case capitalizes the letter right after each period (.), question mark, or exclamation point — the same rule your word processor uses for autocorrect.
